DS Advent Calendar, Day 6: Heat registers

Dated Posted: December 6th, 2011

When I was a kid, my dad had a house with no fireplace. This posed a problem around Christmas – how would Santa deliver our presents? My dad’s answer? He’d come through the heating vents, of course! We had the old Victorian baseboard registers, so that’s where we’d put our stockings. And you know what? It worked every year!

All that to bring me to the Door Store Advent Calendar, Day 6: Heat registers. (If you haven’t been following our Advent Calendar, you can read all about it here.) So there I am thinking about our registers as kids, and I’m thinking, ‘even if we didn’t have a gorgeous mantle back then, at least we had a nice register to welcome Santa’. Because there are some not-so-lovely ones out there that are flimsy and get all bent up if you stand on them, especially if you’re a little on the jolly side. How about surprising your house with a new or vintage cast grate this holiday season? We have a huge selection to fit old heating duct dimensions as well as the new standards. And our vintage ones are all sandblasted and powder-coated so they look as smart as the day they did back in the 1890s.

Prices range from around $60-$350. See our reproduction registers price guide for available sizes of the repro grates (which fit with newer ductwork). Antique selection varies but we always have a lot – come in to see our current selection or give us a call if you’re looking for a specific size.
